The first step to any project in my shop is design and drawing. I like to work directly with a client to sketch ideas initially and then use AutoCAD to produce more accurate shop drawings. These drawings are a useful tool to clarify details to a client and they also are an invaluable part of the fabrication process. We work to find materials that are interesting and also compliment existing architecture and furniture. Once drawings are approved then the fabrication process begins. With CAD drawings I can cut, machine and weld parts to realize a design. After fabrication is finished then most pieces are taken apart and sent to a local finisher to receive the final touch. A sprayed lacquer finish works well to preserve and showcase the natural beauty of many woods and metals. I also use a metal finisher to achieve a wide range of painted and powdercoated finishes. |
