I founded Loki Custom Furniture in 2004. I graduated from Massachusetts College of Art with a Bachelors degree in Sculpture. At the time I was producing large scale totem-like sculptures combining wood and steel. After college I spent the following ten years working for a variety of contemporary and fine furniture makers, cabinet makers as well as a titanium bicycle frame manufacturer. Working for these companies I acquired a broad range of skills including bent laminate furniture making, cabinetmaking, precision machining, manufacturing and drafting. After all of this I felt it was time to go out on my own. My goal is to create interesting and unique furniture. I design each piece for a customer to suit their needs. I often work with architects and designers on projects. I am always interested in trying new materials, ideas and approaches. I have set my shop up so that I can comfortably work with many materials in one space. Currently half of my shop is dedicated to welding, machining and metalworking while the other half is devoted to woodworking. I work with all kinds of wood and metals and I greatly enjoy combining the two materials to create a contrast and warmth that makes my furniture unique. Jamie Cumming |
